Bike fits using the ErgoFit bike fitting programme. ErgoFit is a scientifically formulated cycling ergonomic product. ErgoFiT takes very specific dynamic measurements of the rider’s body, and provides detailed information necessary to a correctly setup a bicycle, whether for road riding, cross country mountain biking, marathon riding or stage racing. The ErgoFiT measurement process takes only 20 minutes, after which a report is generated and a correct bike geometry can be advised for a new purchase, or an existing bike can be set up accordingly. Following this, a 5 step on the bike and dynamic fit process ensures that the predicted measurements result in a 100% optimal bike fit, ensuring comfort, performance and injury prevention. Cleat positioning and foot biomechanics are also assessed and addressed during the session.

FAQ

What should I do before my session?

You should avoid painkillers, anti-inflammatories and alcohol before your session. You should wear something comfortable, however, please keep in mind that your therapist will need access to the area being treated. Please avoid wearing tights and sports bras. Towels will be used for modesty.

What should I expect during my session?

The treatment will be guided by each individual’s circumstance and therefore the modalities used will be specific to the session. The treatment plan will be explained at the start of the session. It is important to remember that the treatments use manual therapies and are therefore hands on.

What should I expect after my session?

You will be given some ‘home work’ from each session. This will include some exercises to complement your treatment. You may experience some bruising and discomfort for a couple of days after a session. It is important to drink plenty of water and perhaps have a warm bath or shower once you are home. Occasionally you may experience some ‘flu like’ symptoms the day after, this is perfectly normal.

ABOUT

ALEX JOINER

Alex Joiner MSc, MSTO completed his master’s degree at Rhodes University, South Africa where the focus of his post graduate research was on spinal biomechanics in kayakers as well as optimising training and recovery for ultra-endurance sport, specifically looking at triathletes.

After completing his studies, Alex moved to Cape Town where he worked at the High Performance Centre of the Sports Science Institute of South Africa (SSISA). Initially Alex worked as the exercise scientist for the South Africa Sprint Kayak Team training for the London 2012 Olympics.

After this Olympic cycle Alex shifted his focus towards endurance sports. Here he provided physiological testing and personalised, training prescription and advice to amateur and elite cyclists, runners, triathletes, kayakers and swimmers from a variety of disciplines and distances. While his focus was on endurance sports, Alex managed a number of rugby-based club development projects at a club and National level.

In addition to running his own clinic just outside of Frome, Alex is currently the Sports Therapist for the Frome Rugby Club. He is also a registered ErgoFit© bike fit provider and looking to start performing bike fits again later this year.

I've been working with Alex on and off for 10 years, from when I was a novice athlete to a professional. Even though I've moved away, I've always come back to Alex for injury advice and strength coaching. His knowledge and experience combined with his genuine care make him an invaluable asset to my team.
